is entitled “Hands and Feet” as in we are the hands and feet of Jesus in our community. Jesus taught “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'” (Matthew 25:35-40)
Our Finance Committee, in an effort to be good stewards, has established some generous parameters to this program: 1. we will only assist a household from the Harlem or Dearing communities once in a six month period, 2. we will assist with groceries depending on the size of the family. Rest assured that safeguards are in place so that none of this is misused. We do not give cash or check to any individual requesting help, the local IGA has partnered with us in this effort. People coming to us are also provided a list of helping agencies in our area to turn to for assistance.
Here is your part – the funds to provide this assistance do not come from our operating budget. Instead the ministry is resourced through your special offering that you leave at the communion rail each 1st Sunday. I recognize that this is beyond your tithe and so I applaud you as you give a true offering unto our Lord. Together, we are his hands and feet reaching out to the least in our town.
